  • Baldivis Sporting Complex in the City of Rockingham officially opens
  • First-class sporting complex will address the significant shortage of active reserve space in Baldivis
  • McGowan Government's support for the project is $12.5 million

A $38.9 million infrastructure project to provide sporting and recreational facilities in Perth's southern suburbs has reached completion and will benefit local surrounding communities.

Premier and Rockingham MLA Mark McGowan was joined by the City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin and Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby to officially open the Baldivis District Sporting Complex today.

The McGowan Government's total contribution to the project is $12.5 million in addition to funding provided by the City of Rockingham ($26.3 million) and Cricket Australia ($100,000).

The complex will meet a shortage of active reserve space in the City of Rockingham for sporting groups, providing change rooms, a main pavilion, eight hectares of playing space floodlighting, three separate car parks, as well as an indoor recreation centre.

The main pavilion is home to the White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club and the Baldivis Brumbies Football Club.

Further planning for additional stages will deliver another pavilion, 18 outdoor hardcourts, a nature playground and youth space at the complex.

Comments attributed to Premier Mark McGowan:

"It is a pleasure to officially open the Baldivis District Sporting Complex today - a significant infrastructure project for the City of Rockingham which will benefit so many families and the local community into the future.

"As local sporting clubs continue to boom and the need  for more playing fields and facilities grows, this significant investment will contribute to meeting the demand for playing grounds for our local Aussie Rules and cricket clubs, and free up playing space at other ovals across Baldivis.

"I want to commend the City of Rockingham for their role in delivering this project and playing a key part in planning for future generations. I'd also like to acknowledge everyone's hard advocacy and contribution on this significant piece of community infrastructure."

Comments attributed to Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"Community sport delivers a yearly $10.3 billion in economic and social benefits to our State.

"Investing in quality infrastructure to support the growth in community sport is vital to the economy and contributes to the health and wellbeing of all Western Australians.

"It will also ensure that the primary users - Baldivis Brumbies Football Club and the White Knights Baldivis Cricket Club - can continue to grow into the future and will be able to offer more diverse opportunities to their members and our community.

"Congratulations to all those involved in bringing this project to fruition."

Comments attributed to Baldivis MLA Reece Whitby:

"This is an exciting project for Baldivis residents and will be a great asset for the fast-growing area.

"We have a large sporting community and this first-class complex will benefit generations to come.

"I want to thank everyone involved for making this happen and look forward to seeing our local clubs enjoy these new facilities."
